Do you not like the look of your old metal fillings? Do you want a more natural look to your smile?
Metal fillings in your teeth can be an eyesore and can potentially affect your health. Metal fillings however are surprisingly easy to change to composite. Silver (amalgam) and gold fillings have been steadily moving out of popularity as people become more and more conscious about their smile.
Metal fillings are durable, but can develop cavities underneath and even stain the tooth to look grayish or dark in color. Silver amalgam also contains mercury, and poses many potential health risks - certain Scandinavian countries have banned silver amalgam which contains mercury for health reasons.
By having your silver fillings replaced with composite, your smile will be whiter and more natural looking than ever. Additionally, having silver amalgam removed from your mouth reduces a person’s exposure to mercury levels present in amalgam fillings.
Once the amalgam fillings are removed, they can be replaced with composite fillings in most cases, if adequate tooth structure remains.
Composite fillings are made of about 70-80% quartz particles mixed with resin which chemically adheres to the tooth structure. The preparation on the actual tooth can be very conservative in order to save the most natural material possible.
The process is quick and can be completed in just one office visit.
