Does radiation make you nervous, or are you hesitant about x-rays because of their potential health risks?
Traditional x-rays emit radioactive particles to highlight a specific part of the body – in dentistry, the tooth and jaw bone structures are often x-rayed to provide the dentist with a clear understanding of a patient’s underlying dental condition. Unfortunately, this procedure emits small doses of radiation, which is why lead vests are worn by anyone receiving a traditional x-ray.
Digital x-rays exhibit 90% lower radiation than conventional film-based x-rays and produce a much clearer and more usable image than conventional x-rays. Our office uses various types of digital systems for dental and jaw x-rays. This means not only are your chances of health complications dramatically reduced, but Dr. Sun will be able to more clearly diagnose your condition and discuss with you the condition of your mouth.
A recent study published in The Journal of the American Medical Association reported that women who have non-digital dental x-rays while pregnant may be at higher risk of having babies with low birth weights.
Dr. Sun's office only uses digital x-ray technology, which produces better results with your safety and health in mind. The study found no risk for exposure at the levels used for digital x-rays. Dr. Sun’s office uses only the latest in digital x-ray technology for all of her patients.
